This makes it no surprise that\u00a0research and innovation\u00a0in photonics is\u00a0particularly strong\u00a0in Greece. Research groups across the country excel in key photonics areas, while many Greek scientists contribute to leading laboratories and institutions\u00a0worldwide.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Hellenic Photonics Society,\u00a0or alternatively Panhellenic Optical Society\u00a0(PHOS),\u00a0brings together researchers, students, and professionals working in the field of\u00a0optics and\u00a0photonics in Greece\u00a0as well as researchers of Greek nationality working abroad.\u00a0The first discussions for its establishment started in 2024 and were\u00a0initiated\u00a0by Prof. Demetri Psaltis from EPFL within the framework of the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies (HIAS,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hellenic-ias.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">https:\/\/hellenic-ias.org\/<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0). Following\u00a0a very successful\u00a0unofficial\u00a0first meeting of the community in October 2024 at the premises of FORTH in\u00a0Herakleion, Crete, a temporary board\u00a0comprising\u00a0Prof. Emmanouil Stratakis and Prof. Nikos\u00a0Pleros\u00a0was assigned with the role of proceeding with all necessary procedures for the official establishment of the society. This was finally\u00a0established\u00a0in\u00a0November\u00a02025, shortly\u00a0after the\u00a01<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">st<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0International Conference\u00a0of the PHOS\u00a0society that took place again at the premises of FORTH.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">PHOS\u00a0aims to strengthen the national photonics community by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and scientific excellence, while promoting the visibility and impact of Greek photonics research internationally.\u00a0It\u00a0follows best practices adopted by leading international scientific organizations,\u00a0like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.optica.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Optica<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/spie.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SPIE<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ieeephotonics.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IEEE Photonics Society<\/a>, and works to support the development of a vibrant and connected photonics community in Greece.<\/span><span mission of the Hellenic Photonics Society (PHOS) is to advance and promote photonics science and technology in Greece and to support the community of researchers, students, and professionals working data-contrast=\"auto\"> Provide reliable information to the scientific community, industry, public authorities, and the wider public on developments, opportunities, and challenges in photonics, while
